Join us for the 2019 Alabama Young Democrats Convention in Birmingham, AL. Convention will be May 18 and features a full day of speakers, training, committee meetings, and caucus meetings. Additionally, the 2019-2021 AYD Executive Board will be elected during the business meeting, and several awards will be presented during lunch.
This is your chance to build the future of the Democratic Party in Alabama. We hope to see you in Birmingham.

 

Convention Schedule

May 18th, 2019

8:30 – 9:00 am

Registration

 

Check in to receive your convention materials. There will be a grab and go breakfast available.

9:00 – 9:30 am

Welcome Session

With Mayor Randall Woodfin

Join us as we kick-off convention. Mayor Randall Woodfin will give the keynote and welcome us to Birmingham.

9:30 – 10:30 am

Committee Meetings and Training Breakouts

The Credentials, Rules, and Resolutions Committees will meet to conduct businesss. All other participants have the opportunity to participate in training breakouts.

10:30 – 11:30 am

Chapter Officer Meeting and Training Breakouts

Chapter Officers will meet to prepare for a successful term. All other participants will participate in trainings.

12:00 – 1:30 pm

Keynote and Awards Luncheon

With Senator Doug Jones

Senator Doug Jones will give the convention keynote, and the 2017-2019 AYD awards will be presented to distinguished members, chapters, and alumni.

1:30 – 2:15 PM

Caucus Meetings Round I and Training Breakouts

 

The AYD Caucuses will hold their business meetings to elect officers and adopt bylaws. All other attendees will have the opportunity to attend training sessions.

2:15 – 3:00 PM

Caucus Meetings Round II and Young At Heart Meetings

 

The AYD Caucuses will hold their business meetings to elect officers and adopt bylaws. Young at Heart members will meet to appoint members to the Advisory Board and set objectives for the biennium.

3:00 – 4:30 PM

Business Meeting

 

The Business Meeting will include committee reports, caucuses reports, and elections for the 2019-2021 Executive Board.

4:30 – 5:00 PM

Farewell Session

 

The 2017-2019 Executive Board will be retired, and the 2019-2021 Executive Board will be installed.

Credentials

Chair Ollie Davison

Each chapter of the Alabama Young Democrats must charter every two years. Charters must be submitted by May 4.

Rules

Chair Andrew Hester

Any AYD member may suggest an amendment to the AYD Constitution. All rules changes must be submitted by May 4.

Resolutions

Chair Chandra Walls

Resolutions are formal positions adopted by the Alabama Young Democrats. Resolution proposals must be submitted by May 4.

Elections

Elections for the AYD Executive Board will be held during convention. Candidates must declare candidacy by May 4th.

Awards

A variety of awards will be given to individuals and chapters at convention. Applications are due May 4th.
